A Safe Space to Heal acknowledges the Tongva people as the first inhabitants of the land we are currently on and pay respect to the elders and descendants of these people and honor their stories, culture and community.
To put it simply, intergenerational trauma includes the unhealed and unaddressed wounds that have been passed down from our ancestors to our grandparents--->our parents--->us--->our children--->their children. This lens takes blame and pathology off of individuals and acknowledges that trauma exists in a systemic and historical context. We each have the potential to pass on trauma if we are unaware of or unable to take action to heal the wounds of trauma AND we each have the opportunity to take part in ending cycles of oppression and suffering.
What is my definition of "Trauma?"
Trauma describes experiences that were never supposed to occur and that cause overwhelm, shock and unsafety to the body.
YES.
